Raima Sen started her acting career when she was only 17. Ever since, she has worked with several celebrated filmmakers, including Rituparno Ghosh. Over the years, she has successfully stepped into OTT – both Bengali and Hindi. After her success in Mai and Black Widow, the actress talked about her journey as a star kid.
In a recent interview with Etimes, Raima said that her journey as Suchitra Sen’s granddaughter and Moon Moon Sen’s daughter was a tough one. She explained that by the time she entered the industry, her younger sister Riya Sen was already a known name. The actress further added that people had already expected a lot from her. “They had already judged me, criticised me. They expected me to be a know-it-all,” she said. The actress also added that she thinks it is difficult for the star kids in the beginning as opposed to a newcomer, who might not have any baggage.
Raima Sen’s grandmother Suchitra Sen has a great legacy in Indian cinema. For her, it was not easy to create her place. The actress identified Rituparno Ghosh’s Chokher Bali as her turning point. “Once I did that film, people started seeing me as Raima and not as Moon Moon Sen’s daughter or Riya’s sister. I have successfully created my niche here,” she said.
Raima has done a number of Bengali and national projects after that. With Shabana Azmi, she has worked in Godmother. She admitted that she had to take up screen tests and auditions and shared that she had her share of hardships. However, the actress feels blessed by all the hardship as she says she learnt from the experience. Raima admitted that she never had any formal training in acting. Instead, she has worked under talented directors in her career.
