Rainbow Rishta: Release date, OTT partner, trailer, plot, cast and more

With the advent of OTT platforms and social media, the once-upon-a-time-ignored-or-LGBTQIA community is now welcomed with open arms. Not just the people belonging to the LGBTQIA community, but also the films which mirrors the community. In the past, one could only count on fingers the films which had been made which strived for acceptance of the LGBTQIA community. But, as said before, with social media and OTT platforms, it seems that people from the LGBTQIA have now got a voice… a voice of their own! ‘Rainbow Rishta’ is one such attempt in the direction of finding and accepting love.

Why the title ‘Rainbow Rishta’
We all know that the LGBTQIA community finds its representation in the rainbow colours. But, did you know that, it was Gilbert Baker, a LGBTQIA artist who wanted to make a statement filled with pride about a symbol that showed diversity, and that’s why he chose rainbow because it was naturally found in nature. Likewise, as the title suggests, ‘Rainbow Rishta’, stands for relationships of the LGBTQIA community.

Story outline of ‘Rainbow Rishta’
The story of ‘Rainbow Rishta’ is just not about one single person. The docu-series mirrors the life and lifestyle of six stories of finding and accepting love. There is also a string of strong statements in the docu-series that states, “We live in a society where being queer is seen from an angle of ridicule”, “Why can’t we love freely like everyone else” amongst others. The docu-series shows what it is to date a transwoman to having a one of its kind rainbow wedding or even trying to rent a home as a young LGBTQIA couple and others.

Ahead of the release of docu-series, the makers had dropped its trailer. As stated earlier, it mirrors the thought-provoking feelings that makes the LGBTQIA community wanting to be accepted and loved at par with anyone else and everyone else.

Cast and crew of ‘Rainbow Rishta’
The docu-series has been directed by Jaydeep Sarkar, Hridaye Nagpal and Shubhra Chaterjee. ‘Rainbow Rishta’ stars an array of stars including Daniella Mendonca, Trinetra Haldar Gummaraju, Sanam Chaudhary, Lush Monsoon, Aneez Saikia, Sadam Hanjabam, Soham Sengupta, Suresh Ramdas. While the entire docu-series have been created by Vice Studios, it has been produced by Samira Kanwar, Niharika Kotwal and Jaydeep Sarkar.
