Prime Video's commitment to diversity
According to Aparna Purohit, head of originals for India and Southeast Asia at Prime Video, they take pride in bringing stories that reflect the diversity of the world they live in, whether that be through stories set in underrepresented milieus or through characters that resonate with audiences around the world. Rainbow Rishta looks at the lives, hopes, and dreams of members of the LGBTQIA+ community with compassion and without bias. They think it's important for individuals in the community to see happy endings in which love grows, friendships flourish, and families rally around one another. It has been a pleasure to collaborate with VICE Studios on the production of Rainbow Rishta, and they are confident that the show's profound emotional core and sensitive stories will resonate with viewers everywhere.
Samira Kanwar of VICE Studios added that their mission is to produce thought-provoking content that offers a fresh perspective and compelling narrative. They are ecstatic to finally unveil Rainbow Rishta to the public. The show is about more than just love, though; it also deals with sympathy and joy. Love is something that connects every human being on earth, and this series chronicles the real lives of members of the LGBTQIA+ community as they search for and navigate the many facets of this universal emotion. They are thrilled to collaborate with Prime Video to bring to life this unconventional docuseries that has been a genuinely enriching experience for the team that worked on it, and they hope that it will help in fostering understanding, acceptance, and, above all, love.
Hope for understanding and acceptance
Director Jaydeep Sarkar further remarked that Rainbow Rishta celebrates the most powerful emotion of all, love, in all its grandeur. It is an honour to document the lives of these exceptional people who are not afraid to stand up against the status quo with dignity and perseverance. The filmmaker is thankful to Prime Video and VICE Studios for providing a place for these human experiences that have been long overdue. With Rainbow Rishta, he is hoping that people will see that LGBT lives are similar to those of heterosexual people.
