Raj B Shetty on Su from So promotion: Focus is on audience feedback; not a celebrity show
Raj B Shetty, who is one of the producers of JP Thuminad’s directorial debut Su from So is looking at having paid premiere shows in several cities in the run-up to the film’s release

Four paid premieres in different cities that will have audiences talking about his film for 3-4 days before its official release – that’s the promotion plan for Raj B Shetty’s latest production venture, Su From So. The film’s been directed by actor-filmmaker JP Thuminad and will be in theatres on July 25. How is Raj planning to draw audiences to theatres at a time when they seem to have lost all confidence in the Kannada film industry?
“Honesty should be your weapon during promotions,” said Raj to FDFS Kannada, adding that he sees no merit in having a show for celebrities to come and praise the film, irrespective of whether they liked the film or not. Instead, he’d rather drop promotional material from the film in regular intervals and drum up conversations around it. Like, for instance, the Danks Anthem song, which has caught the attention of audiences, as well as the trailer.
Besides this, Raj thinks that having paid premieres a few days before the official release will also be helpful. “I think we should have premiere shows well in advance and give people time to talk about the film and spread the word. Let audiences decide whether to see our film or not based on this feedback. We are giving them this option to ponder over days ahead of the theatrical release. There is a decent buzz now based on the song and trailer and the premieres will decide if the film is really any good,” said Raj.
The actor-filmmaker adds that his prerogative, then, would be to amplify the feedback from the premieres, if the word-of-mouth is positive for it, rather than doing endless interviews that do not convert into footfalls. The trailer of the horror comedy has been well received, which has given the team a morale boost.
