From Ankusam to Omkaram to Simharaasi and Gorintaku, actor Rajashekar has been a part of many successful remakes in his three-and-a-half decade stint in Telugu cinema. This weekend on May 20, he’ll be seen in another remake, of the Malayalam film Joseph, titled Shekar, where he plays a retired cop. The film has screenplay and direction by his better half and actress Jeevitha. Shekar’s pre-release event was held in Hyderabad yesterday.

At the event, Rajashekar said, “I came from my deathbed to be a part of Shekar, it was all your prayers that helped me recover and get back to normalcy. Just like how you helped me bounce back to action, I request audiences to do something similar for the film as well by watching in theatres. I may have been the one to voice my interest in the remake, but the entire credit for Shekar goes to Jeevitha; she’s balanced work and family priorities the way she only can.”

Reportedly a lot of youngsters came to him during Shekar's promotions and said that they would take their parents along to watch the film at the theatres. “Generally heroines think twice to act with an ‘old hero’ like me - both Muskaan and Athmiya have come up with wonderful performances. Anup Rubens has also done a terrific job in elevating the impact of the narrative,” he added.

He lavished praise on his daughters, Shivani and Shivathmika, and said that they assisted their mother immensely during the post-production work of Shekar. “You’ll understand their contribution better when you watch the film,” Rajashekar stated. The veteran expressed his confidence on the final result and requested audiences to watch the film in theatres first (and OTT later).

Rajashekar thanked the chief guests including directors Sukumar, Prasanth Varma, actors Samuthirakani and Raj Tarun for gracing the event. He also talked about his interest to act in a film directed by Samuthirakani. Rajashekar’s recent releases include PSV Garuda Vega and Kalki, helmed by Praveen Sattaru and Prasanth Varma respectively,
