Malayalam filmmaker Chidambaram has become a toast of the Tamil film industry since his recent film Manjummel Boys created history at the Tamil Nadu box office . Recently, he had the opportunity to meet Superstar Rajinikanth.

Rajinikanth hosted the main crew behind Manjummel Boys at his residence in Chennai and discussed the film at length. Chidambaram expressed admiration for the way Rajinikanth remembered every moment in the film and discussed with him scene by scene. The young director also recalled that Rajinikanth was surprised to learn that such a young crew was behind this movie.

Rajinikanth backs Manjummel Boys

Chidambaram noted that he also shared with Rajinikanth several memories from shooting Manjummel Boys during his meeting with him. And they both also discussed other Malayalam movies and the work that is being done in the Malayalam film industry. Rajinikanth also wished the team as the Telugu version of "Manjummel Boys" is set to release in the Telugu states this week.

Rajinikanth is the latest high-profile member of the Tamil film industry to extend his support to the Malayalam blockbuster. Rajinikanth's counterpart Kamal Haasan was the first to throw his weight behind Manjummel Boys and widely promoted the movie in Tamil Nadu.

Kamal Haasan hosted Manjummel Boys at his office after watching the movie in a special screening. And he went down the memory land recalling his experience of shooting in Gunaa cave.

Manjummel Boys a big box office hit

Manjummel Boys shares a strong connection with Kamal's Gunaa (1991). In particular, the iconic song Kanmani Anbodu from the movie played a very instrumental role in endearing this film to fans of Tamil cinema worldwide.

Besides Rajinikanth and Kamal, Manjummel Boys also received support from Dhanush, Vikram and Siddharth to name a few.

Manjummel Boys, which is inspired by real-life events, has earned more than Rs 50 crore from Tamil Nadu alone, making it the biggest every Malayalam hit in the state. The film's worldwide collection is now pegged at more than Rs 220 crore.
