The industry has been abuzz with speculations about director Nelson joining forces with Superstar Rajinikanth once again to create a sequel to 2023's blockbuster Jailer . Nelson addressed the murmurs about the project, suggesting that it's in the pipeline.

"I am not sure whether my next project is Jailer 2. Wait for the official announcement," Nelson said at an event recently, which has created quite an excitement among the fans of Superstar.

Jailer became one of the biggest-ever hits in the history of Tamil cinema. The film, starring Rajinikanth as a retired police officer, raked in more than Rs 600 crore from its worldwide ticket sales. And the scale of the film's success seems to have motivated Rajinikanth to consider a sequel.

Nelson also discussed the pre-climax scene in Jailer, which caused fans to work themselves into a frenzy as it brought Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, and Shivarajkumar together on the screen.

Nelson revealed that Rajinikanth smoking a cigar is his favourite shot in the entire movie. "We shot that just a few days before the completion of the production. And when I appreciated the cinematographer, he was happy to hear my praise. I have saved this shot on my phone and I keep looking at it time and again," he revealed.

He also disclosed that he was inspired by movies like Annamalai and Baasha to shoot that scene, but it was challenging to convince Rajinikanth to smoke on screen. While Rajinikanth had made a mark in the industry with his legendary cigarette flick, for about two decades now, he has stopped smoking on the screens.

Understanding the reach and weight of his stardom and how he can influence people, he quit doing so. Even when he meets his fans off the screen, he advises them to quit smoking, citing how the habit took a toll on his own health.

"Rajini sir told me that he will do the scene if the script demands. But, he won't unnecessarily do it, just for the sake of it. Both Shivarajkumar sir and Mohanlal sir also come in this scene. And I wanted to create a moment of intense excitement in theatres. And when Rajini sir saw it in the sequence, he was also convinced," Nelson recalled.

Jailer is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
