We had earlier reported that Rajisha Vijayan’s sports drama Kho Kho would release on Saina Play first and later on Amazon Prime Video. However, recent reports suggest that the movie will be made available from June 2 onwards on Amazon Prime Video.
While the makers of the movie have not confirmed signing a deal with Amazon Prime Video yet, a highly-placed source from the team had told us that the digital rights of the movie were sold to Amazon Prime Video along with Saina Play.
The Malayalam film, which is directed by Rahul Riji Nair, had its TV premiere on May 27. The film, meanwhile, will be available on Simply South OTT platform from June 2 for audiences outside India. This was also the case for Kunchacko Boban’s movies Nayattu and Nizhal last month. Both films released on Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, respectively, the same day they began streaming on Simply South.
Kho Kho revolves around a girls’ kho kho team, coached by a former athlete played by Rajisha. Mamitha Baiju, who was last seen in Operation Java, essays the captain of the team. Venkitesh VP along with director Rahul and The Great Indian Kitchen filmmaker Jeo Baby are also seen in cameos.
The movie had opened to positive reviews in theatres when it was released in April but the makers had to withdraw the movie within two days due to the surging COVID-19 cases in Kerala. However, the positive feedback of the film reportedly worked in its favour during the negotiations for the OTT rights.
