Rajkummar Rao is excited to work with directors Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK once more. He claims that they have infused their sense of humour into their next web series, Guns & Gulaabs. The actor, who previously collaborated with Nidimoru and DK on their 2018 project Stree, cited the opportunity to collaborate with his favourite creators as a major factor in his decision to support the Netflix series.
In an interview with PTI, Rao stated that they are extraordinary and have such an unusual sense of humour and eccentricity. Nobody else tells a tale in the same manner as Raj and DK do. He knew them before Stree and was captivated when they told him about Guns & Gulaabs. The actor was anticipating something similar, absurd, and unusual from them. As an actor, he had such a huge space to perform in; there was so much to discover.
Guns & Gulaabs, which is set in the 1990s, is marketed as a tale of protagonists who experience love and innocence while surviving in the criminal underworld. Dulquer Salmaan, Adarsh Gourav, Gulshan Devaiah, and T J Bhanu are also featured.
The National Award recipient, who admits to being a fan of Hindi films from the 1990s, said it was fun to relive the time while filming the show.
It is very '90s in terms of how they are dressed, how they speak, the props they have used, and the utilisation of Campa Cola and Gold Spot as cold drink brands. The actor had a blast doing it all.
Rao claimed that as a child, he frequently took on the personas of popular movies at the time, including Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Shool. He liked watching them and yearned to be involved in these tales. Whenever he watched a movie, like DDLJ, he pretended to be that person for two weeks. He changed into those sweaters and glasses when he saw Mohabbatein, becoming Raj Aryan. After watching Shool, Rao adopted Samar Pratap Singh's persona.
Rao also has upcoming films like Bheed by Anubhav Sinha, Monica Oh My Darling by Netflix by Vasan Bala, and Mr. and Mrs. Mahi by Sharan Sharma. Times like these are thrilling for the actor. Working with these amazing creators and being a part of these wonderful stories is fun for him. The actor has no complaints, and that is how he intends to continue on this journey: by only making films that he truly believes in and never for any other purpose.
The actor's most recent film, HIT: The First Case, by filmmaker Sailesh Kolanu, has drawn mixed reviews from reviewers and viewers. The crime investigation action thriller, which debuted in theatres last week, is a Hindi version of the 2020 Telugu film of the same name.
