Bollywood has been indulged in remakes of South films the past few years and the latest one getting ready for release is HIT: The First Case, starring Rajkumar Rao and Sanya Malhotra. Director Sailesh Kolanu, who has helmed both the Telugu original and the Hindi film, has now stated that the upcoming movie will be different from the usual remakes.
“This is a remake, I agree. However, it's not like those usual remakes that audiences get to see. Honestly speaking, this is my personal belief that remakes should only be done by an individual who did the original film,” Sailesh said, as reported by Mid-Day.
He also added that it is rare for a remake to have the same director, cinematographer and editor of the original, which is the case with HIT: The First Case. He said distributor Dil Raju felt that the movie would work with the Hindi viewers with the necessary tweaks and that it could bring the same high in the Hindi theatres as they did with the original. Sailesh also explained that with the original technical team working on the remake, an “original recreation” would be a better term to describe the film than a remake.
The director further said that thrillers such as HIT: The First Case are meant to be a theatre experience with immersive sound and visuals. As that is how the original was viewed, he wanted the same for the Rajkummar-starrer as well.
The Telugu film, which had Vishwak Sen and Ruhani Sharma, released in 2020 and was a big hit with the fans. The movie follows a police officer working with the Homicide Intervention Team, who also has to fight his inner demons as he is tasked with a new mission.
Rajkumar Rao, Sanya Mallhotra, Dalip Tahil, Milind Gunaji, Shilpa Shukla, Jatin Goswami, and Sanjay Narvekar will star in the Hindi remake, which is slated for a release on July 15.
