In an NDTV interview, Rakesh Bedi defended Dhurandhar: The Revenge while subtly taking a jab at Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency. He said, “I don’t believe in politics. I believe in cinema. Everybody has the right to like or dislike a film, but I don’t think it’s right to put a film into some kind of category, whether it’s pro-establishment or anti-establishment. The verdict is that people are loving it.”
Reflecting on the positive reception of Dhurandhar: The Revenge, Bedi commented that while past films on figures like Indira Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to make a significant impact, the current film's storytelling and production style have clearly resonated with the audience.
For context, Kangana Ranaut’s recent self-directed project, Emergency, saw her portray former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. The 2025 historical drama, based on the Indian Emergency of 1975–77, failed to make a commercial impact, collecting only Rs. 18.40 crore worldwide.
