In his upcoming film Rakkasapuradhol, which releases on February 6, 2026, Raj B Shetty is playing a cop, which is a first for him, but one that he’s sure audiences will not find difficult to accept. In his limited filmography so far, Raj has done vastly different characters from film-to-film. While he was the major comic relief in Su From So, in 45, he was a rather weak man, and Landlord had him as an oppressor, the villain in the tale. This level of flexibility, he reckons, is possible because he does not have fans.
“What I have is an audience that watches my films. That’s what I believe and that’s how it should be,” he says about not being bound by a certain image; a trap that stars find themselves in. Raj was speaking on the Gold Class with Mayuraa podcast when he made this observation. The actor-filmmaker adds that he is very clear about not repeating himself onscreen, even if a certain role has garnered a lot of attention.

“I recently played a powerful antagonist in Landlord and a lot of people appreciated my performance. Naturally, the tendency will be to do more such roles that we think audiences will like and a sense of monotony will creep in. You stop seeing the character and see the actor only. So, as soon as I finished Landlord, I decided that I will never again do such a role,” said Raj.
The variety in roles apart, with Rakkasapuradhol Raj also insisted that the team focus on utilizing the budget on the story and even tried to save cost by working overtime to finish the film fast. “I don’t have much of a market; who will come to see me in theatres? People come for the story. All my films that did well did so because of the story,” he says.
