Ram Gopal Varma has been in the spotlight for many reasons over the last week. The trailer of his first web production for MX Player, Dhahanam was launched and the director has been on a whirlwind promotional tour across the country to spread the word about his next release, Dangerous, a romantic crime thriller starring Naina Ganguly and Apsara Rani in key roles. The Telugu version of Dangerous is titled Maa Ishtam. Tummalapalli Rama Satyanarayana is releasing Maa Ishtam across the Telugu states. Maa Ishtam hits theatres on April 8.
A media interaction was held in the presence of the actors, director and producer in Hyderabad recently, where the team spoke at length about the movie. "I've worked with Ram Gopal Varma on many movies but playing a lesbian in Maa Ishtam is a different experience altogether. It's easy to romance a male actor but not so much with an actress. Despite my initial inhibitions, I was able to perform the role with support from the entire team. An actor should be ready to play any role and this film is an unforgettable experience. I hope audiences like our work," Naina Ganguly said.
Apsara Rani shared, "I am very happy to have been a part of Maa Ishtam. I want to take up a wide variety of roles and took up this film for the same reason. What happens when two women fall in love? That's Maa Ishtam in a nutshell for you. RGV's films need no introduction and this film will be full of interesting twists and turns. I was thrilled to have worked on a romantic number with a female co-star for the same."
Director Ram Gopal Varma stated, "Maa Ishtam is a crime drama where the pivotal characters, played by Naina Ganguly and Apsara Rani are lesbians. They've performed their roles to perfection. Apsara didn't take long to say yes to the film but it took a while to convince Naina to take up the film. Maa Ishtam will be the first-ever film which will have a romantic number featuring two women. I'm sure crowds will enjoy the film." Tummalapalli Rama Satyanarayana expressed confidence over the commercial success of Maa Ishtam as well.
