Director Jeethu Joseph and Mohanlal’s Ram is a hugely anticipated project – not just for the audience but also for its makers. The movie, which had begun shooting before the pandemic, is also one of Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph’s longest ever films to be in production.

The shoot of film was stalled when the nationwide pandemic lockdown was announced in 2020. However, this offered Jeethu opportunities to work with Mohanlal in two other projects – Drishyam 2 and 12th Man, before resuming Ram’s shoot in August 2022 – but on a much bigger scale than was initially conceived.

Jeethu had told OTTplay that Mohanlal’s pan-Indian appeal due to Drishyam 2 as well as Lucifer had a say on him deciding to turn the film into a duology, with the producers as well as the superstar agreeing that the story would work best as two movies.

The team had shot for a week in Kochi in August, before heading to the UK, Morocco and Tunisia. The UK schedule was disrupted with Queen Elizabeth’s passing and permissions for shoot being revoked. This meant that the team had to reapply for permissions.

Now, Jeethu, in an interview, said that about 50 days of shooting are still pending for the movie. This would also mean that the film could miss its Onam release date. “The shoot of UK and Morocco portions are over and there are some portions left to be canned in Tunisia and India,” he said. “We are not able to execute it at the pace we thought we could. There are several foreign actors too as part of the movie and the delay is due to the unavailability of their dates along with Lal sir’s.”

The movie, which is touted to have Mohanlal in a globe-trotting action avatar, also has Indrajith Sukumaran, Trisha, Durga Krishna, Samyuktha Menon and Adil Hussain in pivotal roles. On the films’ release plans, Jeethu had earlier told us, “Both are being shot simultaneously. We will be releasing the first instalment and then there will be a considerable gap before the second part hits theatres.”
