The year 2022 has been a tricky one for Akshay Kumar with three of his theatrical releases (Bachchan Pandey, Samrat Prithviraj, and Raksha Bandhan) so far turning out to be box office failures. Despite the scale of these projects and the hype surrounding them, the seasoned actor wasn’t able to live up to the expectations he had set for himself and has been a subject of a lot of media conjecture as a result. However, it would seem that Khiladi Kumar will have a reason to smile after all as his latest release Ram Setu gets off to a promising state at the box office.
Yes, according to the latest reports, the action-adventure film is eyeing a Rs. 15 crore (net) opening day and currently seems well on course to leverage the long holiday week ahead. Although the reviews so far have been slightly discouraging with many critics highlighting the poor narrative of the film, the mass pockets of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, and Rajasthan have reacted well to the film so far. It would be interesting to see if the negative feedback has any impact on Ram Setu’s box office performance and considering that the film has two other contenders in Black Adam and Thank God, the new couple of days would be highly crucial. Ram Setu is the third biggest opening for a Hindi film in the pandemic era and is currently behind Sooryavanshi and Brahmastra.
Directed by Abhishek Sharma, Ram Setu also stars Nushrratt Bharuccha, Jacqueline Fernandez, Satyadev Kancharana, and Nassar, among others.
Black Adam, the latest DC Comics superhero vehicle, has already showed signs of being a major commercial success and reportedly, proven to be the biggest box office opening in Dwayne Johnson’s career as a leading man. Thank God (starring Ajay Devgn, Sidharth Malhotra, and Rakul Preet Singh), on the other hand, has received largely poor reviews but has managed to stay afloat at the box office.
