Counted among the young actresses in Malayalam cinema, Mamitha Baiju has gained a lot of appreciation for her performance in the coming-of-age drama film Super Sharanya. Her latest movie Ramachandra Boss & Co, starring Nivin Pauly, which is currently running in the theatres, however, has received mixed reviews. Speaking during a recent interview, Mamitha expressed her belief that completely rejecting a film based on reviews and criticism is not the right approach.

‘Labelling a film as trash is not helpful’

While speaking with Red FM, the actress said that she doesn’t depend much on reviews before watching a film. According to Mamitha, reviews should not be done to destroy a movie. “I have seen reviews that personally attack the artistes and people associated with a project. I have also been subjected to body shaming for characters that I have played in movies,” she said.

She thinks that while everyone has the right to express their opinions after watching a movie, labelling a film as trash and discouraging others from watching it is not good. The actress also highlighted the difference between sharing a personal movie review with someone versus publicly critiquing a film. The efforts of all the people working on a film are diminished by those who judge a film on public platforms.

Mamitha’s latest films

Her most recent release - Haneef Adeni-directed Ramachandra Boss & Co - also features Vinay Forrt and Aarsha Chandini Baiju in key roles. In the film, Mamitha plays an engineer who partakes in a heist. Before that, she was seen in Arjun Ashokan’s Pranayavilasam, which did well at the box-office.
