It’s the day of Ramayana cast announcements, it seems. Shortly after the title glimpse was revealed on July 3, which gave audiences a fleeting view of Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and Rocking Star Yash as Ravana, apart from official confirmations of Sai Pallavi as Sita, Ravi Dubey as Lakshman and Sunny Deol as Hanuman. Then came a post from actress Kajal Aggarwal, stating that she’s a part of the film, which was speculated for the longest time, anyway. Kajal is said to be playing Mandodari in the film.
A little while ago, it was the turn of veteran actress Shobana to announce that she is also on the cast of Nitesh Tiwari’s film. The Thudarum actress gave no indication about the character she is doing, but is rumoured to be playing Kaikasi, Ravana’s mother, indicating that her portions are with Yash. Shobana is said to have already shot for her scenes.

According to reports, the two-part magnum opus, which will be in theatres for Diwali 2026 and 2027, ends the first instalment with Ravana’s introduction, so Shobana will likely be seen in the second part only. Meanwhile, reports suggest that Ramayana’s massive ensemble cast also includes Rakul Preet (Surpanakha), Lara Dutta (Kaikeyi), Kunal Kapoor (Lord Indra), Vivek Oberoi (Vidyutjiva), Sheeba Chadha (Manthara), among others.
Some reports, even speculate that veterans like Amitabh Bachchan and Anil Kapoor will also be in the film, as Jatayu and King Janak, respectively, while Arun Govil, who played Rama in the TV serial Ramayana decades ago, fills in as King Dasharath. Mohit Raina as Lord Shiva, Ramya Krishnan as Kausalya are also names that have been reported.
Producer Namit Malhotra is credited as writer, along with Sridhar Raghavan, while the music is the handiwork of Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman. Yash’s Monster Mind Creations is co-producing the film along with Malhotra.
