As we move further into 2025, with an abundance of content available in both streaming and theatrical formats, several upcoming films have created a significant buzz. One of the most anticipated is Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana franchise, which is divided into two parts and stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi, and Yash in the lead roles. The mythological epic has been making headlines, with Kapoor and Sai already spotted filming. Now, Yash has joined the shoot—but without Ranbir. Here’s everything you need to know.
Nitesh Tiwari’s magnum opus, Ramayana, is currently being filmed in India. With Ranbir Kapoor, Yash, and Sai Pallavi in key roles, the film remains one of the most highly anticipated projects. While Ranbir and Sai have already shot portions of the film in Mumbai, Yash, who also serves as a producer, has now begun filming his role as Ravana in the city.
According to recent reports, Yash arrived in Mumbai and started shooting for Ramayana - Part 1 on February 21, following two days of costume trials. This segment of the shoot will focus primarily on war sequences. Some of the key battle scenes will be filmed at Aksa Beach in Mumbai.
Later, the production will shift to a studio in Dahisar for additional scenes. A source revealed, “The war sequences are being mounted on a grand scale, with the action choreography designed to showcase Ravana’s strategic prowess. The filming will involve a combination of green screen shots and live-action sequences, requiring extensive VFX work. This particular segment does not feature Ranbir Kapoor, as it is not the Ram-Ravana face-off. Several other key actors have joined Yash for this phase of filming.”
Tiwari’s Ramayana will be released in two parts. The first installment is set to premiere on Diwali 2026, while the second will follow on Diwali 2027. The film also features Lara Dutta, Sunny Deol, Indira Krishna, and others in significant roles.
