Ramesh Aravind counts down to the release of 100 with trailer launch

Back in 2019, Ramesh Aravind had announced his new directorial 100, his version of filmmaker Susi Ganeshan’s Tamil film, Thiruttu Payale 2. At the launch press meet, Ramesh had explained that he had only taken the basic gist of the story and reworked it, with Susi’s permission, to not only make certain changes in the narrative, but also to add new characters, like, for instance, Rachita Ram’s inclusion. The changes, Ramesh had said, were made to suit Kannada audiences, as well as his age as protagonist.

The film, 100, is a very modern and up-to-date story about the ill-effects of social media, says Ramesh. The subject, one would imagine, was not difficult for Ramesh to handle, given that he is quite active on social media and understands its pros and cons well. What he needed help with was to get the presentation of a cybercrime office and investigation right, for which, he visited officials in Bengaluru before putting his film together.

Come November 19, and Ramesh’s film will hit theatres in Bengaluru, in the run-up to which he released the trailer recently. 100, according to the actor-director, is a film that mixes two genres – family drama and thriller – which he defines as family thriller. Speaking to us earlier, Ramesh had said, ““100 is a family drama, and revolves around a husband, wife and their kid, with a cybercrime angle, which makes it a niche subject. This is a film about how technology is messing our lives. There’s a saying that ‘a knife in the wrong hand can cause a river of blood, while power in the wrong hands can distort history’. Similarly, technology in the wrong hands can be an absolute killer and that is what this film explores. I’d call it a family thriller and am quite happy with how the film has turned out.” One block of the narrative in the two-hour-long film, says Ramesh, is based on a true incident that happened in the life of his friend.

Produced by Ramesh Reddy, with music by Ravi Basrur, the film also stars Rachita, Poorna, Shobharaj, Prakash Belawadi, and has been dubbed in Telugu as 100 Cybercrime, although it will not get a simultaneous release with the Kannada version.
