Ramya opts out of Daali Dhananjaya’s gangster flick Uttarakaanda

Kannada actress Ramya, who gave up cinema in the pursuit of a political career a few years ago, only to let go of that too and announce her planned return to films, is showing no signs of being seen onscreen soon. The actress, who had first said that she was making her filmi comeback with her home production Swathi Mutthina Male Haniye, later decided against it, claiming that a relative newcomer would be better suited for the role. Siri Ravikumar eventually played the role of hospice therapist Prerana in the film.

Ramya fans, though, were not too disappointed by this turn of events, because she had, by then, revealed that her comeback venture was much bigger and better. She would be collaborating with KRG Studios on what would be their third project with Daali Dhananjaya and second with director Rohit Padaki after Rathnan Prapancha, a gangster flick set in north Karnataka, which is now a two-part film called Uttarakaanda and going on floors shortly. The team had a muhurtha sometime last year that Ramya attended and now that they are ready to begin shooting and conducting auditions for the extras and other supporting roles, Ramya has said that she won’t do the film after all.

Who will headline Rohit Padaki’s Uttarakaanda? Will it be Dhananjaya, Pramod, Shiva Rajkumar or someone else? 

In an Instagram story, she said, “I will not be working on Uttarakaanda due to unavailability of dates”, with a rejoinder that she has put her film and political commitments on hold. This, of course, rules out the theory that Ramya is not doing Uttarakaanda because she will be campaigning for a national party.

The actress is yet to announce another production venture, although she is said to have zeroed in on a script and crew. And since she specified that all film commitments are on hold, it won’t be that either. So, what gives that is keeping Ramya so busy? Well, here’s hoping that the actress will provide a clear picture.
