As Brahmastra, one of the most anticipated releases of the year, is inching closer to release, stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt are doubling down on the film’s promotions. Ranbir essays the character of Shiva in the film, a young man who discovers his connection to the all powerful weapon Brahmāstra. The duo were recently at IIT Bombay for the same, where Ranbir opened up about what stands out in Shiva as a character.

As reported by Pinkvilla, Ranbir spoke of how Shiva was someone who tries to seek out light in times of darkness, as he says in the film as well. Ranbir said “it means that light uss roshni ka naam hai jo hum sabke andheron se badi hai”, he said.

The actor went on to talk about where people can find the light in their lives. He said that it can be found in the joy of simple, everyday things, such as in the smiles and laughter of one’s friends, on the streets, in food, and in good films. The actor also made sure not to leave out his wife and Brahmastra co-star Alia either, saying she was a source of the light in his life as well.

He said that the philosophy of positivity was something that was needed in hard times such as these. “I think the search for positivity and light is something that Shiva does”, he concluded.

In addition to Ranbir and Alia, Brahmastra also features Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna Akkineni and Mouni Roy in pivotal roles. Shah Rukh Khan will be seen in a cameo appearance in the film, which Ayan Mukerji has directed. Ayan is also a producer on the film along with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Namit Malhotra.

Brahmāstra Part One: Shiva will have its theatrical release on September 9 in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
