Animal, the action-drama film that stars Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role, has emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of 2023. The Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial, however, has failed to impress a large group of audiences who have been bashing the film for its misogyny, sexism, extreme violence and vulgarity.

Meanwhile, Roopesh Peethambaran. Who finally watched Animal, took his official social media handles and dropped a post. In his post, the Malayalam actor-director hinted at the connection between Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, and the 1989-released Mohanlal starrer, Naduvazhikal, in his post, leaving the netizens curious.

Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal has a connection with Mohanlal’s Naduvazhikal?

Yes, Animal indeed has a connection with Naduvazhikal when it comes to the main theme of the film – the father-son bond. However, let me assure you that the 1989-released Mohanlal-starrer is not half as problematic as Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s latest outing. However, both the films deal with the stories of sons who totally idolize their fathers and go to any extent to fight for them. Roopesh Peethambaran, who hinted at the same, wrote: “We left this scene long back bro (Sandeep Reddy Vanga). With political correctness. But I love Animal the way it is!!”

Animal narrates the story of Ranvijay Singh Balbir, who has an unhealthy obsession and devotion for his father, rich industrialist Balbir Singh. His obsession turns into madness as he embarks on a journey to find the enemies of his father. Naduvazhikal, on the other hand, revolves around the journey of Arjun, who tries to prove the innocence of his father Ananthan (who is also an industrialist), who is falsely accused on a case. However, Ananthan gets assassinated by his enemies and all hell breaks loose.

The 1989-released Joshiy directorial narrates the story in a more balanced manner and never settles for problematic tropes, like Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film. The romance of protagonist Arjun has very little significance in Naduvazhikal unlike Animal, which gives a bit too much screen space to the toxic marriage of the protagonist and brings up a bizarre and disturbing extra-marital affair angle.
