Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal outpaces Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan; secures second place among 2023's top grossing films

The action movie Pathaan starring Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Sidharth Anand has been overtaken by Sandeep Reddy Vanga's recent smash hit, Animal. The movie brought in Rs 4.07 crore during the last weekend of 2023, according to the Sacnilk box office report. With its current nett total of Rs 544.93, Animal is presently the second highest-grossing film of 2023, behind Jawan.

Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan, which had previously brought in Rs 543.09 crore (nett) at the Indian box office, was surpassed by the movie.

Despite the release of Shah Rukh Khan's third film of the year, Dunki and Prabhas-starrer Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire, Animal has been able to remain strong in theaters. Nevertheless, the next box office goal for Ranbir Kapoor's film is Jawan. There's a big difference to close: Atlee's film is expected to gross Rs 640.25 crore (nett), over Rs 95 crore more than Animal.

Despite all the controversy surrounding it, the Central Board of Film Certification awarding the film an 'A' rating, and being one of the longest Indian films (3 hours and 21 minutes), the film earned the title of being the 2nd top-grossing film of the year 2023.
