According to reports, director Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi in pivotal roles, will be announced on April 17 on the occasion of Ram Navami. The mass entertainer is expected to release on the Diwali 2025 weekend.
A source close to the production company that is bankrolling Ramayana has revealed to Pinkvilla that the announcement of the film is expected on April 17, 2024, on the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami. Terming it as Indian cinema’s "most ambitious film ever", the source added, “There is no better date than Ram Navami to make an official announcement about the cast, crew, and release plans for Ramayana.”
The production team has apparently been working very hard behind the scenes to deliver an authentic yet opulent mythological spectacle to the audience through Ramayana. Acknowledging the team’s massive effort, the source said that pre-production work went on for five years to get the script and visuals in place. “It’s now time to execute all that was planned,” he is said to have added.
Moreover, the lead actors have undergone numerous look tests, pre-visualisations, and tech rehearsals in Mumbai and Los Angeles over the last two months. Since it's a film with a lot of visual effects, the creators are taking their time before deciding on a release window.
Starting in July, a dedicated team of the top visual effects artists will focus solely on Ramayana for the next 500 days.
According to the source, the first portions of the film are currently being shot, which will most likely be completed by July. Ranbir has been undergoing voice and diction training for Ramayana. “Ranbir has a certain baritone and a way of speaking his lines. It is symbolic and you can recognise a dialogue purely based on Ranbir’s voice even with your eyes closed,” said the source.
He added that director Nitesh Tiwari wants to ensure that Ranbir sounds different from any of his other characters. Calling Ranbir “a versatile actor”, another source told India Today that the actor was indeed enjoying the experience of doing something new and different.
