Although it is widely reported that Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's love story began with Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra, there are traces of Ranbir being a part of Highway's promotions. The movie, which was Alia's third film in Bollywood after Student of the Year and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, took a rather strange turn when Ranbir rather than the film's lead Randeep Hooda was being marketed. Randeep has now hinted that Ralia's relationship might actually be dating back to Highway and did not begin on Brahmastra sets like reported. He expressed his strong emotions on being left out of promotions for a movie featuring him as the lead for another superstar. Here's everything he said...
Although Randeep Hooda is the leading male actor in Highway, Ranbir Kapoor became a part of the film's promotions despite not even having a cameo in the Imtiaz Ali directorial. "Maine bhi woh dekha aur mujhe bhi samajh nahi aaya Ranbir Kapoor ka iss picture se kya lena dena hai," Randeep acknowledged in an interview with journalist Shubhankar Mishra. Hooda is currently seen playing the lead antagonist in Sunny Deol's film, Jaat.
Being left out of promotions till two days before release, Hooda naturally felt bad, but understood that the makers wished to promote the exploitation faced by Alia Bhatt's character in the movie. However, Randeep is still unsure what did Ranbir have to do with the film.
Of course it is widely known that Alia Bhatt had once said that she wanted to marry Ranbir and the superstar appeared for the promotions of her third film after working with Imtiaz Ali in Rockstar. But, Randeep has hinted that this might not be a mere co-incidence and that Highway might have been the starting point for Ralia's relationship. It is to be noted that Varun and Alia's fans aka Varia were rooting for them as a couple at that point, too (given their chemistry in SOTY as well as Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania). "Maybe that’s where their love story began. I offer them my best wishes. If this film brought them together, I’m truly happy for them," Randeep said.

Randeep Hooda addressed the controversy around his directorial film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar recently too. The actor had claimed that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose sought inspiration from Savarkar, but Bose's relative had something else to say in the matter. The very topic was touched upon ahead of Jaat's theatrical release.
Jaat has a long way to go if it wishes to break Gadar 2's Box Office record. Over its first weekend though, the movie has not even come halfway of Rs. 100 crore club. However, it is not yet game over for the movie since this is an extended weekend and there could be a huge boost in collections today i.e. on first Monday. Time to wait and watch.
