Hooda opened up about his latest project in a statement, saying that the role in it gave him the opportunity to ‘explore new facets’ in his acting career. He also said the script of the series was simple, yet intriguing and that he was sure it would appeal to a global audience. The upcoming show would mark Hooda’s second collaboration with Netflix. He also had a pivotal role in the Netflix original film Extraction (2020), which starred Chris Hemsworth in the lead. It is speculated that a spin-off of the film, based on Hooda’s character, will also be announced.

Set in Punja, CAT will revolve around the story of a man who finds himself entangled in a dangerous drug trafficking conspiracy, and must escape the chaos, which also involves politicians, police and drug lords, before it is too late. The series is directed by Balwinder Singh Janjua, who also serves as its showrunner and producer. The series is produced under the banners of Movie Tunnel Productions and Jelly Bean Entertainment. Rupinder Chahal and Anutej Singh will co-direct the show.
