Randeep Hooda's next movie has been confirmed. The actor will be working on a film based on Operation Khukri. The movie is based on Operation Khukri: The Untold Story of the Indian Army’s Bravest Peacekeeping Mission Abroad by Major General Rajpal Punia and Damini Punia. It is Randeep Hooda's first announcement since the release and Box Office success of his previous film, Jaat. Here's everything you need to know about Operation Khukri...

What was Operation Khukri?

Operation Khukri was one of the Indian Army’s rescue operations on a foreign land. It was about 233 Indian soldiers being held hostage in Sierra Leone, West Africa, back in 2000. The high-risk rescue mission was in the midst of jungle warfare. Hooda plays the role of Major General Raj Pal Punia in the movie. He led the operation despite being a young Company Commander at the time. "Operation Khukri is not just a tale of guns and glory, but of sacrifice, brotherhood, and unyielding courage in the face of insurmountable odds," the actor said in a media statement. Through the story, the Veer Savarkar actor hopes to bring alive the spirit of soldiers who would rather die than surrender.

Needless to say, Operation Khukri, despite being a massive success, came with its fair share of challenges. Apart from jungle warfare, the real challenge was when the peacekeeping effort escalated to a 75-day tense stand-off in the terrains of Kailahun. Matters got worse when there was no supply available, but the operation was led and successful on willpower alone. "Our aim is to bring to life a chapter of Indian military history that deserves far more recognition — not just for the spectacle, but for the spirit of our soldiers who would rather die than surrender. I believe this story has the power to inspire every Indian," Randeep added.
