Before Telugu cinema gets back to a series of biggies starting with Dasara from March 30, several interesting films are set to test their fortunes at the box office. While Srinivas Avasarala’s Phalana Abbayi Phalana Ammayi released this week, two other Telugu films - Das Ka Dhamki and Rangamarthanda - are arriving for Ugadi on March 22. The teaser of Rangamarthanda was unveiled today.

Rangamarthanda, directed by Krishna Vamsi, is the Telugu remake of the Marathi hit Nata Samrat and stars Prakash Raj, Ramya Krishna and Brahmanandam in key roles. Anasuya Bharadwaj, Aadarsh Balakrishna, Rahul Sipligunj, Ali Reza, Shivathmika Rajashekar and Jayalalitha essay other important parts in the film which has music by the legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja.

The teaser starts with Chiranjeevi’s shayari Nenoka Natunni after which the focus shifts to an event where Prakash Raj is being felicitated at a cultural venue. The glimpse then introduces other characters in the film in a series of shots. In a dramatic sequence, Brahmanandam even slaps Prakash Raj calls him a bad actor and a terrible human. Ramya Krishna asks another character to ‘shut up’ soon.

It ends with a long, angry monologue where Prakash Raj throws light on the life of an actor and why he’s special. The makers promise a heart-wrenching drama with arresting performances showcasing the highs and lows in the life of an ageing theatre actor. S Venkat Reddy and Kalipu Madhu have bankrolled the film under Housefull Movies and Raja Shyamala Entertainments.

Raj K Nalli cranked the camera for the film. Amazon Prime Video has acquired the drama’s post-theatrical streaming rights. Leading banner Mythri Movie Makers have acquired the worldwide distribution rights of Rangamarthanda. Taking cue from films like Pelli Choopulu, Writer Padmabhushan, the team organised a series of early premieres for industry circles and the media to grab eyeballs prior to release.
