Ranjish Hi Sahi is a dramatic love story set in the golden era of the 1970s, and the trailer for the Voot series is finally out. Tahir Raj Bhasin, Amala Paul, and Amrita Puri star in the web series, which is produced by Mukesh Bhatt and Jio Studios. The series revolves around a fledgling maverick film director who gets drawn into an extramarital affair with an eccentric superstar who changes his life forever; his marriage to his first love spirals as he is torn in between two worlds.
Created by Mahesh Bhatt and written and directed by Pushpdeep Bhardwaj, a Vishesh Entertainment production, the series is set primarily in 1970s Bollywood, during the golden era of bellbottoms and fantastic music. Shankar, Amna, and Anju are the central characters in this story. The narrative delves into the complexities of adult human relationships and the various shades of love. Temptation, forbidden love, passion, trust, marriage, loyalty, unconditional love, stability, obsession, and separation are all explored in this powerful drama.
Ranjish Hi Sahi promises not only a nostalgic walk down memory lane through reliving the golden moments of a glamorous age but also a look back at one of Bollywood's most creatively rich and ambitious periods.
"With so many thrillers and criminal shows being produced, I was intent on crafting a dramatic love story with music at its core—something that might stand out," says director Pushpdeep Bhardwaj.
He also revealed that Ranjish Hi Sahi was born out of a lot of research and a lot of conversations. Based on the Golden Era of the film industry, the magnificent 1970s, Bhardwaj called it an attempt to bring out complicated human feelings. It was nothing short of a miracle to recreate this environment for him in these trying circumstances.
When I was reading the storyline of this unique love story, I was quickly gripped by how layered Shankar, the character, is," Tahir says of playing such a layered character." The actor also said that the challenge of starring in a romantic drama in which the protagonist is divided between the love of two women in his life intrigued him for the part. In describing his character, Tahir further shared that Shankar straddles the line between a sensitive romantic and a powerful rebel. He called it a complex emotional roller coaster, but also a lot of joy.
"When I received a call from Vishesh Entertainment to play this character, my reaction was, 'Wow!'" says Amala, who is making her Bollywood debut with the show.
The South actor was ecstatic and said it's a sensation she can't describe, but also a strong sense of duty. Amala added that this Bollywood diva's role had a fiery and unabashed personality, and capturing that energy on screen was difficult for her. It was almost like a make-believe game, although she did a lot of research and it was unquestionably enlightening.
Amrita concluded by saying that her character Anju's strength is her simplicity. It was a learning experience for her to get inside the skin of her character. The actor revealed that Anju's life and the times she lived in were vastly different from hers. Puri called her character a strong woman who is the glue that holds the family together. Her sympathetic character and ability to forgive astounded the actor, and being a housewife and the family's emotional backbone wasn't simple in the true sense, and it changed the way she looked at things.
