Ranveer Singh is not producing a new series based on the iconic superhero Shaktimaan, his team confirmed, amid fresh speculation following remarks made by Mukesh Khanna.

Rumous sparked by Mukesh Khanna’s interview

According to recent rumours, Singh is reportedly in talks to produce a new series based on the character Shaktimaan, continuing the Shaktimaan heritage. These rumours surfaced after an interview in which Khanna, who portrayed the original Shaktimaan on the Doordarshan show in the 1990s, stated that Singh had shown a great desire to play the superhero.

But now Singh's camp denies everything. According to a statement from his management, there is no validity to the rumour that the actor has acquired the rights to make a new superhero film (Shaktimaan). He is currently busy filming Aditya Dhar's next project, Dhurandar, and he also has Don 3 in the works.

Mukesh Khanna recalls Ranveer Singh’s personal interest in playing Shaktimaan

According to Khanna's previous conversation with Siddharth Kannan, Singh personally approached him once and tried to convince him to play Shaktimaan. He shared that the actor came to persuade him that he could play Shaktimaan at a Sony-arranged meeting. Singh had previously expressed interest in the role.

Khanna reported that the three-hour meeting concluded without a decision. Singh was trying to persuade him that he would be a good Shaktimaan, but nothing came of that meeting.

Khanna made an intriguing suggestion that Singh could be a better fit for the role of the series' antagonist. He stated that the actor should have played the iconic villain of the TV show, Tamraj Kilvish, instead of Shaktimaan.

Aditya Chopra’s team previously expressed interest in rights

Additionally, he disclosed that the project was not an initial endeavour to obtain franchise rights. Aditya Chopra’s team wanted to know if they might have the rights to Shaktimaan ten years ago. Coincidentally, a photo of Ranveer Singh in the garb of Shaktimaan appeared online around the same time. Instead of giving them the rights, Khanna suggested they work together. He hoped they wouldn't make it a disco drama.

Now that Singh has formally distanced himself from the project, it is unclear what will happen to Shaktimaan in the cinema.
