The superhero movie genre has seen immeasurable success over the past decade, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has released a long list of highly successful superhero movies. While the genre is extremely popular in India as well today, Shaktimaan, was a popular show back in the days as well. Now latest reports suggest that Ranveer Singh is in talks to star in the show’s remake.
As reported by India Today, Ranveer has been approached by the makers to portray the cult Indian superhero on screen, taking the mantle from Mukesh Khanna. The report also states that the Bollywood star is yet to confirm his commitment.
"Ranveer has shown a keen interest in playing Shaktimaan, the Indian superhero. The makers too feel that Ranveer can bring a natural charisma to the superhero character, who was first introduced in 1997. Talks are on with the actor and the team," a source told the publication.
Sony Pictures International in collaboration with Mukesh Khanna's Bheeshm International announced the movie earlier this year, which was also reported to be an ambitious trilogy. The superhero show that ran on televisions in the 90’s starred Khanna as Pandit Gangadhar Vidhyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri, who is also a superhero who has attained the powers of the five elements.
There has been no official confirmation from the makers about any of the cast since the remake was announced.
Ranveer Singh, who is one of the big names of the Hindi film industry today, was last seen in the comedy drama Jayeshbhai Jordaar, which failed to make a dent at the box office. The actor is currently working on Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus and Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani.
