Ranveer Singh, it turns out, is not only the talk of the town now for his upcoming film Dhurandhar. The Bollywood actor is also at the heart of discussions about his presence at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India in Goa. While a lot of it is revolving around Ranveer’s tribute to Thalaivar Rajinikanth for his 50-year contribution to cinema, a section of audiences has been outraged about what he said when he turned his attention to Kantara Chapter 1 actor-filmmaker Rishab Shetty.

Ranveer Singh's Kantara comments under fire

Ranveer’s supposed admiration for Rishab’s performance in the recently-released Kantara prequel, has now been construed an insult, as the actor chose to call Guliga daiva’s sister Chavudi a “female ghost”. And if that wasn’t bad enough, he went ahead and did a bad impression of the same, cross-eyed, tongue outstretched and doing his version of a ‘primordial scream’. This, Ranveer hoped, would be his ticket to a role in the next chapter of Kantara.

Kannada audiences who saw the clip of the speech are, of course, outraged. Comments ranged from, “Dear @RanveerOfficial you don't know the difference between God and Ghost .... Chavundi is Goddess not ghost …And you literally mocking on big stage…”, to “Ranveer Singh mimicked Chavundi Mata in a funny way. Man is working hard to make things difficult for Durandhar”, “Isn’t this blasphemy”, among others.

Some also wondered why Rishab failed to respond to it and was seen laughing, considering that he has repeatedly urged audiences not to mimic coastal Karnataka’s bhootha aaradhane, as was seen after the release of both Kantara and Kantara Chapter 1.
