Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actors Alia Bhatt and Ranveer Kapoor visited Kolkata to launch their grandeur Durga Puja song, Dhindora Baje Re, on Monday. Bengali actor and actress Tota Roy Chowdhury and Churni Ganguly joined them at the song release.
Upon their arrival, Alia put in a valiant effort to greet the media in Bengali. She stopped and fumbled a couple of times but finally floored the audience with her fairly smart Bengali diction. She said, “Nomoshkar Kolkata. Kemon acho Shobai? Tomader shobaike onek dhonyobad ekhane ashar jonyo. Aaj ami khub excited. Asha kori tomader shobar amar notun gaan Dhindora khub bhalo laagbe (Hello Kolkata. How are you all? I thank you all for coming here today. I am very excited. I hope you all will love the new song, Dhindora.),” in her complete speech.
The actress confessed that she practiced the speech before the final delivery. On Tuesday, Alia took to her Instagram and posted a video of rehearsals. At the event, Alia said, “I am sorry. I practiced this a lot since yesterday but after coming here, and seeing your faces, I forgot the lines,” she said. Despite Ranveer’s jokes, she finally impressed everyone with her Bengali.
Alia plays a Bengali girl – the daughter of Tota and Churni – in the film. While answering questions from OTTplay, the actress said she took great care to portray a Bengali girl. She said that no one wants to be stereotyped. “I kind of relied a lot, for example, on Churni ma'am and Tota sir, and a lot on just the general creative. Our main dialogue writer is a Bengali herself, Ishita Moitra, and I think she was very sensitive about that as well,” Alia said.
