The Delhi Police has registered a case in the deepfake video case of actress Rashmika Mandanna. Amitabh Bachchan, Saiyami Kher, and more celebrities have come out in support of the actor.

In a big development, the Delhi Police on Friday evening registered a First Information Report (FIR) at the Special Cell police station in connection with deepfake AI-generated video of actress Rashmika Mandanna. The police said that the investigation into the matter is underway, and they will probe all angles to the case.

News agency ANI confirmed that the Delhi Police registered a case in deepfake video case of Rashmika Mandanna under relevant sections.
“In regard to the deepfake AI-generated video of Rashmika Mandana, an FIR u/s 465 & 469 of the IPC, 1860 and section 66C & 66E of the IT Act, 2000 has been registered at PS Special Cell, Delhi Police and an investigation has been taken up: Delhi Police,” wrote ANI in a tweet.
What does Rashmika Mandanna have to say on the matter?
On November 6, Rashmika Mandanna issued a press statement on the matter. She said, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly, extremely scary not only for me, but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.”
“Today, as a woman and as an actor, I am thankful for my family, friends, and well-wishers who are my protection and support system. But if this happened to me when I was in school or college, I genuinely can’t imagine how I could ever tackle this. We need to address this as a community and with urgency before more of us are affected by such identity theft,” she said.
Actors namely Amitabh Bachchan, Saiyami Kher and Vijay Devarakonda have come out in support of her.
What does the Central Government say?
As per a press statement, the Central Government has asked social media companies to remove deep fakes within 36 hours of a complaint being registered.
