Atanu Bose’s biopic of Uttam Kumar, Achena Uttam, is all set to release soon. In the film, while Saswata Chatterjee will be seen as Uttam Kumar, young actress Ratasree Dutta plays the character of Sharmila Tagore. While many other actors’ looks were criticised on social media, Ratashree’s look as Sharmila was well appreciated.
While sharing her photos on social media, Ratashree wrote, “This is my look from Achena Uttam directed by Atanu Bose. This is an official biopic of Mahanayak Uttam Kumar. This is a film about a man who is the greatest superstar of Bengali cinema. When this film was offered to me I took this as a chance to be a part of history forever. In this film, I get to portray the role of the evergreen and ever-graceful Sharmila Tagore and a character she played in Satyajit Ray's Nayak. For an actor, this is the kind of role that we live for. A role that will always hold a very special place in my heart. This role is dedicated to the child that used to watch this film glued to the screen. This is my tribute to the child that never stopped dreaming.
“I would like to thank Atanu da from the deepest core of my heart for presenting me with this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of history and the life of a legend.
I would also like to thank my audience that has always loved and stood by me through my darkest days and brightest lights! Keep showering me with your love and blessings like you always have !!
“The journey from Ratasree to Aditi Sengupta and Sharmila Tagore would not have been possible without the expertise of the geniuses in the cost (sic).”
In an interview with Etimes, the actress said that Sharmila is one of her favourite actresses in real life. She also added that Nayak and Aradhara are her favourite films. “She is beautiful and her personality is marvellous. I hope I could do justice to the character based on her. I watched Nayak at least 50 times before Achena Uttam went to the floors,” said Ratashree.
