After scoring a hit with Mark Antony and returning to form, Vishal is joining forces with director Hari for his 34th film. Their third collaboration is titled Rathnam, which like most Vishal starrers, will release simultaneously release in Telugu and Tamil. Kaarthekeyen Santhanam and Zee Studios are bankrolling the film for which Kalyan Subramaniam, Alankar Pandian are the co-producers.

Besides announcing the film’s title earlier this week, the makers unveiled a teaser - First Shot in Tamil and Telugu. The video starts with a series of lorries arriving at a place packed with many idols. Vishal comes out of a lorry and beheads a man whose hands are tied. While the title for the film is apt, the teaser just confirms that it’ll have all the makings of an action entertainer that Hari is conventionally known for.

Vishal and director had earlier come together for Thaamirabharani and Poojai, both performing commercially well at the box office. Samuthirakani, Yogibabu and Gautham Vasudev Menon play supporting roles in Rathnam. Devi Sri Prasad, who earlier worked with Hari for Aaru, Singam and Venghai, composes music for the entertainer. M Sukumar cranks the camera and T S Jay is the editor.

Kanal Kannan, Peter Hein, Dhilip Subbrayan and Vicky are the stunt directors while Ashok Narayanan M and Pavan Narendra are the associate producer and executive producer respectively. P V Balaji is the art director. Hari, who had last helmed Yaanai with Arun Vijay in 2022, is also writing dialogues for the Tamil version. Other details surrounding the cast, shoot and the release date will be out soon.

Meanwhile, Vishal’s earlier film Mark Antony can be watched in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada on Amazon Prime Video. Rathnam’s female lead Priya Bhavani Shankar recently made her Telugu OTT debut with Dhootha, where she was paired opposite Naga Chaitanya. Directed by Vikram K Kumar, the show is now out on Amazon Prime Video.
