Raveena Tandon felicitates filmmaker Onir with the ‘Kashish Rainbow Award’

Film maker Onir is on seventh heaven these days and he has every reason to be so. One of his most cherished films ‘Pine Cone’, had got screened on June 7. This day was the opening day of the ‘Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival’, which is often termed as South Asia's biggest queer film festival.

Actress Raveena Tandon, who happens to be one of Onir’s long standing friend and also a supporter of the LGBTQ community, recently felicitated him with the prestigious ‘Kashish Rainbow Warrior Award’ at the opening ceremony of the 14th Kashish International Queer Film Festival. This award was definitely a notable gesture of appreciation and support. The said star-studded event, which had taken place Mumbai, celebrated diversity, inclusion, and the power of cinema.

The ‘Kashish Rainbow Award’ definitely holds a special significance in the life of 'My Brother Nikhil's director Onir, as it was given to him on the occasion of ‘Pride Month’. Speaking about the award, Onir said, "This award is incredibly special, not only because it is ‘Pride Month’, but also because its ‘Kashish’, and it's special that this award of love happens in my city ... Mumbai. I thank Kashish Film Festival and Sridhar for this award. I am humbled."

As for Raveena Tandon, Onir said, "I am happy to receive this award from my friend Raveena who is a lifelong ally. And I am happy that, in the audience, today is my friend… my biggest support system Nikhil and my business partner Sanjay Suri. For me, this award is for all those in countries across the world where we are still criminalised, murdered and humiliated. This is to tell them that we will win and you are in our thoughts".
