Bollywood actor Raveena Tandon, who won the ‘Best Actress’ award (in drama series) for her performance in the thriller series Aranyak at the 2022 Filmfare OTT Awards, is now going to be a part of the 2023 G20 summit, which is happening in New Delhi later this year.

The National Award-winning actor - who is known for her memorable performances in several films since the 1990s - will represent the entertainment industry at the Women 20 (W20) engagement group at India’s G20 Presidency. She becomes the first member of the film fraternity to be chosen as a delegate to the summit, which is scheduled to take place on September 9 and 10 at the national capital. India assumed the G20 presidency from December 1, 2022 from Indonesia.

Known for her films like Patthar Ke Phool, Laadla, Daman: A Victim of Marital Violence, Aks and Satta, Raveena also supports several social causes (especially, child welfare and women empowerment) and is also a philanthropist.

Sharing her thoughts on being chosen as a delegate for the summit, Raveena told HT City, “I am honoured to be invited to the G20 Summit and to represent 675 million Indian women as part of this delegation. Women in our country contribute to diverse sectors to run the economy, and their efforts should be recognised internationally. W20 is an official G20 engagement group, established during the Turkish Presidency in 2015. The objective is to ensure that the gender considerations are mainstreamed into G20 discussions and translated to the G20 leaders declaration as policies and commitments that foster gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. Having this summit is a fantastic opportunity to empower women and provide them with more rights for their full social and economic participation. The proposed priority areas to be discussed are very much in line with my expectations.”

Among Raveena’s latest films are Prashanth Neel-directed KGF: Chapter 2 and Binoy Gandhi’s Ghudchadi.
