Crazy Star V Ravichandran is back with a bang. The filmmaker-actor’s latest comes as part of the celebration of 50 years of his home banner, Eswari Productions. Directed by Ravichandran, the film, Ravi Bopanna, has him in the lead as well. The film releases in theatres on August 12, in the run-up to which he released a new trailer today. Spanning a whopping 7 minutes, this trailer includes a one-minute tribute to the actor’s late father, filmmaker N Veeraswamy.

The rest, though, isn’t exactly a window into what to expect when the film releases. During the pre-release event of the film last evening, Ravichandran had said that his character arc goes from age 30 to 60 and the trailer captures this transition of the actor, and highlights all three looks. It also puts his two leading ladies in focus, Radhika Kumaraswamy and Kavya Shetty, as well as Kiccha Sudeep, who has a pivotal cameo in the film.

Ravi Bopanna is the official Kannada remake of the Malayalam film Joseph, which had Joju George in the title role. The 2018 crime thriller, directed by M Padmakumar, was based on a script by civil police officer Shahi Kabir, who wrote it inspired by various real-life incidents. The role had won Joju Best Actor nod at the Kerala State Film Awards and a Special Mention at the National Film Awards.

Joseph was about a retired police officer, who stumbles upon a case of illegal organ trafficking. How he goes about cracking it forms the narrative. Sudeep plays a lawyer, who will bring closure to the case. According to a source, Ravichandran has not made major changes to the story or narrative to suit the sensibilities of Kannada audiences. What he has done is that he has stylized the narrative in typical Ravichandran format, including more music and romance than in the original.
