The much-awaited trailer of G V Prakash Kumar’s political drama Rebel has finally arrived! The much-anticipated trailer was unveiled by none other than Captain Miller star Dhanush, who took to his social media pages to release the video. Starring G V Prakash Kumar and Mamitha Baiju, the trailer begins with a classroom sequence, where there are a mix of Tamil and Malayalam-speaking students.

When a Tamil student introduces himself as ‘Pandi’, he is mocked by his fellow Malayalam-speaking students at a college in Munnar. Thus, it is understood that the film centres around the prejudices faced by Tamilians. However, Mamitha Baiju’s character who plays the role of a Malayali student, seems to be kind towards G V Prakash’s character. This makes him develop a soft corner towards her. However, things go awry when there is a conflict between Tamilians and Malayalis that causes a massive uproar in the campus, even leading to deaths as shown in the video. At the end of the trailer, G V Prakash is seen saying that “Each Tamil vote that helped others win should only be cast for Tamils”.

Going by the trailer, the film is about a student leader who is stands up for Tamil students in Kerala. The film appears to be set in the early 1970s or 1960s. GV Prakash's character fights for the rights of the Tamil students who are discriminated against and ill-treated on the college premises. Overall, the trailer promises to narrate a compelling story. The movie is set to have a theatrical release on March 22.

Although the trailer impressed the netizens, a few expressed their disagreement with showcasing ‘a non-existent enmity’ between Tamilians and Malayalees. Few viewers said that the movie could create a rift between two friendly states.

Here are some of the reactions of the public after watching the intense trailer:
