In 2021, director Prem introduced a new heroine to Kannada cinema with his film Ek Love Ya, which was the launchpad for his wife, actress-producer Rakshitha’s brother, Raana. Chosen as the leading lady in the musical love story was Reeshma Nanaiah, whose only claim to fame until then was having won a city-level talent hunt run by a popular daily. Ek Love Ya, though, did not give Reeshma’s career the boost she was hoping for. And it looks like Prem is looking at remedying this – the filmmaker has chosen the young actress yet again as the leading lady of his next- the Dhruva Sarja starrer KD, which is currently in production.
Although there were whispers about her possible casting in the film, since Prem wanted local talent as the female protagonist, today, on the occasion of Reeshma’s birthday, he revealed her first look from KD. The reception to it, though, was not too exciting, with netizens trolling the filmmaker for presenting what looks like yet another “jathre film”.
Comments to Prem’s social media post ranged from, “Anna, jatre madbeda plz”, “Neev first telugu cinema nododu bidi boss. 🙏🙏🙏Awr athi aada jaathre namm karnatakada janathe ge suit aagalla. 🙏🙏🙏As a fan requesting. Get back to excuse me /jogi/kariya prems”, “you are stuck in a loop”, ‘Jatre loading’, “Name Laxmi…. Eating leg piece… great direction”, “Bro the day you stop making movies is the day Kannada industry will prosper. Bari innu macchu longu period alli idya. It’s 21st century. Grow up!”, among others.
Not all was negative, though, with some hopeful that the filmmaker will present Reeshma in a fresh and exciting avatar in this film, which also has Sanjay Dutt and Shilpa Shetty on board. Reeshma, meanwhile, is awaiting the release of Baanadaariyalli, her film with Golden Star Ganesh, in which she plays a wildlife photographer. Reeshma is one of two heroines in the Preetham Gubbi directorial, which was initially planned as a Christmas 2022 release, but was then pushed ahead, with no alternative date in sight yet.
