Regai OTT release date: When and where to stream Tamil crime thriller series

After the recent release of Tamil web series Veduvan, ZEE5 is all set to unroll its next Tamil original. Titled Regai, the series is set to premiere on November 28, the makers announced on social media on Tuesday. Subscribers of OTTplay Premium can also watch the show very soon.

Regai is described as a ‘dark, unsettling thriller’ which draws premise from the Rajesh Kumar’s novel. The series is created, written and directed by Dhinakaran M, with the cast comprising of actors Bala Hasan, Pavithra Janani, and Vinothini Vaidyanathan in lead roles.

The series is set to premiere on November 28, and will also stream on OTTplay Premium.

As per the makers the series will be exploring the themes of truth and crime, with the title Regai translating to fingerprints. The series will consist of seven episodes. Regai will revolve around SI Vetri played by Balahasan and constable Santhiya (Pavitra Janani) who get engrossed in a disturbing investigation. After an ice-cart vendor dies accidentally while fleeing, Vetri to discover a severed hand hidden among melting ice. As Vetri follows the trail, he is pulled into a maze of medical trials and a sinister network where every answer opens a darker door, every survivor is more dangerous than the last, and the line between hunter and hunted collapses without warning.

The trailer of Regai was also released. It begins with the investigation as various characters are introduced through the voiceover of four murders. Four victims that are results of accidental murder is what is perceived at the beginning. However, the case spirals into something sinister, and we see a medical conspiracy on the other side.

Rajesh Kumar, whose novel gave birth to Regai, said in a statement, “Every crime story begins in the human mind before it reaches the page. What interested me in ‘Regai’ is how it takes a simple idea and follows it into the darker corners of our society. When a new creator interprets something from my world and finds fresh fear in it, that tells me the genre is still alive.” According to Dhinakaran, the show is about ‘quiet violence’ that goes unnoticed and never makes it to the police report but destroys lives all the same.
