Production house Warner Bros. unveiled a new release date for Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho’s film Mickey 17 on Tuesday. The highly anticipated feature film, starring Twilight star Robert Pattinson, has been pushed from March 2024 to January 2025. So, fans will have to wait a little longer to watch the science fiction thriller.
The Oscar-winning film Parasite’s celebrated director, Bong Joon Ho, has pushed Mickey 17 from March 29 to January 31 next year. This was reportedly done to avoid a box office clash with another anticipated mega hit, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, which is slated to be released in theatres on March 29.
Warner Bros.' big announcement is also because of the delays caused by the SAG-AFTRA and writers' strike in 2023. The new decision also clarifies speculations about why the official trailer has not yet been released. Mickey 17 is based on the 2022 novel ‘Mickey 7’ and stars Robert Pattinson as a space colonist. The dangerous space job is for clones to continue their work even after the deaths of their employees.
Apart from being the director, Bong Joon-ho also serves as the writer and producer for Mickey 17 via his company Offscreen. Other collaborating producers are Plan B Entertainment and Dooho Choi’s Kate Street Picture.
The sci-fi film is Bong Joon Ho’s first feature film release after bagging the prestigious Oscars for coveted titles like Best Film and Best Director in 2020. It also marks his first collaboration with Batman actor Robert Pattinson. One reason why Mickey 17 is eagerly anticipated is its starry ensemble.
Naomi Ackie, Steven Yeun, Toni Collette, and Mark Ruffalo will also be seen in pivotal roles in this Edward Ashton’s novel adaptation. More details on the plot have been meticulously kept under wraps.
