Renji Panicker finally responds to Param Sundari trolls: 'Malayalis are not their…'

Noted Malayalam actor Renji Panicker became the fodder for many memes ever since the Janhvi Kapoor-led Hindi film Param Sundari entered the digital space. But the senior actor and screenwriter brushed off the Param Sundari trolls, saying that there is nothing much to read into these. It is a Bollywood film and Malayalis are not their target audience, Renji Panicker said, choosing to dismiss the criticisms against Param Sundari.

Param Sundari is a 2025 Hindi film, starring Bollywood actors Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. The film has been brutally trolled ever since the first glimpse of Janhvi speaking in Malayalam surfaced online. In a recent interview with The Cue Studio for the promotions of The Pet Detective, Malayalam actor Renji Panicker, who is also part of Param Sundari, said that there is not much to make of Malayalis getting offended over the movie.

"We (Malayalis) are not their target audience. They made the film that they intended to make. First of all, it is an out-and-out fun film. I don’t think they have applied any logic beyond that,” opined Renji Panikkar, who played Bhargavan Nair in the Hindi romantic-comedy.

Renji Panikkar, who was also one of the most prolific writers in Malayalam cinema during the 90s, said that there was also a Malayalam writer on board for the Hindi film.

“They must have written the dialogues in Hindi or English and got those translated. If there were any corrections in our dialogues, they would ask us. And even those who acted alongside us, they also asked us when they had to speak Malayalam. I don't think they messed it up in those (aspects),” added the actor.

Pointing out that all native speakers would have such opinions, Renji Panikker said, “When we speak Hindi, they would be hearing it like that. We assume we are saying perfect Hindi, but they would find these same issues.” Renji Panikker further said that he had a good experience shooting for the Bollywood film, helmed by Tushar Jalota 

The young Hindi actress Janhvi Kapoor, who played the character named Thekkepattu Sundari Damodharan Pillai, struggled with the language, which is quite a tongue-twister for any non-Malayali.

On the other hand, Renji Pannikker will be next seen in The Pet Detective, starring Sharafudheen and Anupama Parameswaran in the lead roles.
