Retro box office collection day 2: Suriya-Karthik Subbaraj film earnings drop by nearly two-thirds

Retro, the recently released Tamil film starring Suriya in the lead role, is currently running in theatres and has collected Rs 26 crore at the domestic box office during its two days of run. The film’s opening, however, was Rs 42 crores worldwide on its first day.

Actor Suriya, whose comeback depended on the success of Retro, has lukewarmly achieved it, given that Retro has been getting mixed reviews. The film’s local box office earnings stand at Rs 26 crore by the end of two days, as per the Sacnilk report. The film saw a drop from Rs 19 crore on the first day to Rs 7.5 crore on its second day in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi put together. With the weekend to follow, Retro might see a rise in earnings. Retro is written and directed by filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, who is known for his films like Pizza and Petta. It marks the first collaboration between Suriya and Karthik Subbaraj.

Retro also stars the Beast actor Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, Nasser, Karunakaran, and others. The film revolves around an adopted son of a gangster, who is trying to leave his violent ways to live a peaceful life with his lover, only to be pulled back into the world of action as destiny has it for him. The film opened to both positive and negative reviews.

Retro OTT release

Earlier this year, Netflix unveiled its content slate and Retro is one of them. The streaming giant will announce the release date once the film completes the theatrical run of at least four weeks. Retro is produced by Suriya and Jyotika under 2D Entertainment. The romantic action drama has music by Santhosh Narayanan.
