Dragon is Ashwath Marimuthu's latest Tamil film, featuring the popular director-turned-actor Pradeep Ranganathan in the lead role. The film was dubbed in Telugu as Return of the Dragon and hit theaters on February 21, 2025, alongside Dhanush’s NEEK (also known as Jabilamma Neeku Antha Kopama).

While Dhanush’s film received strong word of mouth, it didn’t translate into significant box office collections. However, Return of the Dragon had a different story to tell. Despite mixed reviews, the film witnessed a steady rise in collections. On its third day, the youthful entertainer recorded its best numbers yet, earning ₹2 crore in the Telugu states.

It had collected ₹1.1 crore on day one and ₹1.8 crore on day two, bringing its total share to an impressive ₹4.9 crore. This is a remarkable achievement for a Tamil film without any major stars. These collections have also shocked the trade and show how much the youth was waiting for Pradeep's film.

Pradeep Ranganathan becomes a popular name in Telugu cinema

Pradeep Ranganathan became a familiar name in Telugu cinema after the massive success of Love Today. His performance in that film resonated with the youth, who flocked to theaters to watch him in Return of the Dragon. In the film, he plays a successful IT employee who is sent back to college to complete his engineering degree. Director Ashwath Marimuthu presents this concept in a fun and engaging manner.

The film’s collections have also benefited from the underperformance of other Telugu releases, Baapu and Ramam Raghavam, which failed to connect with audiences. With increased demand, additional screens have been allocated to Return of the Dragon, which stars Anupama Parameswaran as the female lead.
