Daali Dhananjaya’s first release for 2023, Gurudev Hoysala is special for him on two counts – it is his milestone 25th film and it is his second collaboration with KRG Studios, which made his Rathnan Prapancha earlier. The film is coming to theatres on March 30, which, at one point seemed set to hit a roadblock, when another film team claimed ownership of the title Hoysala and got an injunction on the release on the Dhananjaya starrer. At the time, Dhananjaya’s film was also called Hoysala, so the team quickly decided to change it and added his character name to it to ensure they could stick to the release plan.

With only days to go for the N Vijay directorial to hit theatres, the film was cleared by the censor board and awarded a U/A certification. But what is more interesting is that according to the censor certificate, Gurudev Hoysala is all of 2 hours and 11 minutes long. Netizens have been appreciative of the film’s tight runtime, which they believe is just right for an action entertainer about a cop in Belagavi. Incidentally, Dhananjaya’s film is 5 mins shorter than Kabzaa, which came out a week ago. “Perfect runtime for this genre”, was a common refrain with several netizens pointing out that the narrative would be fast-paced and taut. Gurudev Hoysala pairs Dhananjaya with Amrutha Iyengar for a third time. Gultoo fame Navin Shankar plays the main antagonist.

Meanwhile, Dhananjaya, who has been busy promoting the film with back-to-back TV and YouTube interviews, took time off to join the Karnataka Bulldozers team in Vizag, as they played the second semi-final of the day against the Telugu Warriors. ‘Off-duty’, Dhananjaya appeared to be having a good time in the team dug out, even busting a move or two with ambassadors Shanvi Srivastava and Sapthami Gowda.
