RG Kar Medical College incident: Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Kinjal Nanda, and others demand justice

The henious murder of a young doctor at the RG Kar Medical College shook the country. While doctors across the state called for justice and took to the streets, a number of celebrities from different walks of life took to social media to demand justice. A creative that states, ‘We want justice for the incident at RG Kar Medical College,’ went viral on social media. 

On Friday, the body of a junior female doctor was discovered at the hospital’s seminar hall. The post-mortem indicated that the young woman was raped and murdered. The city has been witnessing protests and the civil society demands justice. Some people wonder that if a doctor at a government hospital does not have security, then how safe are the common girls? 

Actor Kinjal Nanda, a doctor at RG Kar Hospital, has been vocal since the beginning. He was on night duty on the day of the incident. Kinjal called a candle march for the victim. His wife Namrata is also a doctor. Kinjal said he could not sleep thinking about the safety of his wife and daughter. He demanded punishment for the culprits. 

Kamaleswar Mukherjee, who is also a doctor, protested against the incident. He said, “The incident at RG Kar is unprecedented and horrific. We can’t give safety to the doctors at the A-list hospitals in the city. We want an impartial trial. The culprit must be found and gravely punished. Previously, doctors and health workers at government hospitals suffered harassment and insults. Now it went to the extreme. I demand a prompt resolution.’ 

Srijit Mukherji posted on social media seeking justice. Sreelekha Mitra said, ‘Rape and murder! And there is the stupidity to tag it as suicide. Those who try to cover up the situation must be suspended. This is a hellish incident. The culprit should get an exemplary punishment. Let the victim’s family get justice.’ Anupam Roy asked ‘Will justice be delivered ever?’ Singer Iman Chakraborty also got vocal about the incident.
