Ram Gopal Varma was one of the most prolific directors in Indian cinema and has made some of the biggest hits in his career, but he has gone off track and has been making cheesy films that are not even being watched by a few ardent fans of his. At one point in his career, he also started making these poor adult films, which had a lot of sleaze in them. One of those films was Saree, which hit the screens in April 2025.
Saree clocks good numbers on OTT
Well, the romantic thriller is now out on Lionsgate Play and Aha and, surprisingly, is doing quite well, especially on Aha. If you missed the film in theatres, you can also stream RGV’s Saree on OTTplay Premium.
Coming back to the film, Saree was slammed by critics, and everyone trolled RGV for his insensitive writing and over-the-top narration in the film. Saree is about a young girl who wants to become an actress and dresses up in a saree. One fine day, a photographer spots her in a saree, goes mad about her, and starts following her. Things become so serious that he kidnaps her and starts torturing her. The rest of the story is about how the girl successfully escapes from his clutches.
This is a simple story and did not have much emotion, but how it was showcased and the adult content have helped the film on OTT. A chunk of the younger audience and those who missed the film in theatres are streaming it quite a lot on Aha. The numbers are also great, and one of the sources close to the team has revealed that RGV’s Saree has clocked close to 50 million streaming minutes.

This is not an ordinary number as there are no familiar Telugu faces in the film, and all those who are watching it are doing so only for the adult content and curiosity. The makers are quite happy that their film is finally getting its due and say it is a perfect watch for OTT.
Saree was directed by Giri Krishna Kamal and was written by Ram Gopal Varma himself. Aradhya Devi played the female lead in the film and went all out in terms of glamour. Satya Yadav played one of the leads in this film, which is a psychological thriller released on April 4, 2025.
