Rhea Chakraborty stepped away from the limelight for several years, primarily due to intense public, media, and legal scrutiny following the tragic death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020. Now, Rhea is all set to make her comeback with Hansal Mehta's upcoming Netflix legal series Family Business. In a new interview, Rhea spoke candidly about the difficult years when mainstream acting opportunities dried up, a time that kept her away from the spotlight.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Rhea Chakraborty recalled the difficult period she spent and revealed how she almost gave up on her acting dreams. “Letting go of this dream of acting, which I had worked towards for over a decade, took many sessions of therapy. Ihad to stop thinking about it because I couldn’t have it; Ididn’t get acting opportunities," she said.
Recalling rejecting Hansal Mehta's Family Business initially, Rhea said that Hansal and the writer asked her what was stopping her. "I told them I had left acting, and they said that’s all the more reason I should do it because it does not matter whether I do well or not. Now I’m glad I said yes, it was different coming on set, such a long life has been lived in the last seven years. It’s like cycling, something you never forget," she said.
Meanwhile, Rhea was last seen in Chehre (released in theatres in 2021) and later appeared in Roadies (2023, 2025). She also hosted her podcast Chapter 2 (2024–26).
Family Business is an upcoming high-stakes corporate drama series created by Hansal Mehta and Niren Bhatt, announced as part of the Next On Netflix 2026 India slate. The series is directed by Mehta, produced by Abundantia Entertainment and True Story Films, and stars Anil Kapoor and Vijay Varma in the lead roles.
The series centres on a ruthless succession war within one of India’s most powerful business families. A visionary billionaire (played by Anil Kapoor) handpicks a young tycoon (played by Vijay Varma) as his successor, only to abruptly fire him months later. This forces the ousted successor to fight back and trigger a "no-holds-barred" corporate war.
Apart from Vijay, Anil, and Rhea, Family Business also casts Neha Dhupia, Anant Nag, Kanwaljit Singh, Raima Sen, and Madhoo Shah.
